from its ‘party island’ to its opening date and new renderings, here’s what you need to know

GLENDALE, AZ  — Earlier this year, the city of Glendale announced that VAI Resort was set to open in late Spring of 2023, but now the entertainment resort is set to open in late 2023 per its latest press release.

This giant business venture is expected to create more than 1,800 new jobs for the city of Glendale and “have a far-reaching economic benefit for the region,” according to the city.

The video in the player above shows previous ABC15 coverage on VAI Resort, which was initially set to open in late Spring 2023. It is now set to open in late 2023.

In an interview with ABC15, Grant Fisher, president of VAI Global Development, said that the resort will put Arizona on the map as an international destination.

“Our designers are designing these buildings to look like Dubai, and New York City and have Konos Island that represents Mykonos and Tulum, Mexico so we’re adding aspects from around the world in the heart of Glendale, Arizona,” said Fisher.

“When you pick your partners well, you can expect great things to happen,” said, Kevin Phelps, Glendale City Manager, in a statement. “Mr. Fisher’s increased investment and enhanced vision for this world-class property will truly cement the City of Glendale here in the valley, the state and the country as a top entertainment destination.”

VAI Resort is targeted to be a whopping $1 billion business venture that’ll use 60 acres of land in Glendale.

“Debuting VAI in my home state is a monumental moment and one that I hope will further elevate Arizona on the international stage as a notable entertainment destination,” said Fisher, president of VAI Global Development.

“Debuting VAI in my home state is a monumental moment and one that I hope will further elevate Arizona on the international stage as a notable entertainment destination,” said Fisher, president of VAI Global Development.

According to a press release, here’s what VAI Resort will feature:

  • $40 million “state-of-the-art” concert stage. According to the city of Glendale, VAI Resort is expected to host more than 100 events annually.
  • 6-acre “swimming sanctuary and temperature-controlled white sand beaches.”
  • Konos Island, “a 52,000-square-foot marvel that will feature a Mediterranean restaurant, private cabanas, DJ booth and a 16-person aerial bar ideal for sipping cocktails with panoramic views from 130 feet in the air,” read the press release of VAI Resort.
According to a press release, Konos Island will be the country’s first man-made party island.

SAND AND WATER OF ‘KONOS ISLAND’

“In the heat of the summer, our white sand beaches will never burn your feet due to material [of it], it just doesn’t absorb the heat,” said Fisher to ABC15. “Our water is able to be heated in the winter so, when Vegas pool parties have to shut down from October to March, we’re open 365 [days]. So, it can be Christmas Day and people can be enjoying our water oasis.”

The “water oasis” is set to be 6-acres big, that’s about one tenth of the overall resort land. And if you’re wondering where the water will come from to supplement this massive concept, here’s what Fisher told ABC15.

  • According to Fisher, VAI Resort is current “in discussion” with the city in regards to the water. “They’ve been tremendous partners- as far as the water usage and conservation we’re going to be great stewards with the environment and everything, our water is going to be actually recycled and everything. So.. they’ll irrigate all of our vegetation on site, so really being conscientious and having that environmentally friendly mind set,” said Fisher.
  • Knowing the past: “Originally the land we’re building on was an agricultural field, so we’re using 30% less of the water actually. So, we’re using the same methods as far as obtaining that water as the previous landowner. But we’re actually only using about 30% of that water from when it was an actual farm,” Fisher explained.

MATTEL ADVENTURE PARK IN THE WORKS

The first-ever Mattel Adventure Park will open in Arizona and will be situated on the south end of the VAI Resort property.

Mattel and Epic Resort Destinations recently unveiled big plans for the planned adventure park in the West Valley.

“Super excited to have them on-site, I think that definitely brings the family dynamic and demographic to the resort, that Arizona currently doesn’t have,” said Fisher to ABC15 and added that VAI Resort and Mattel Adventure Park will “be opening on the same dates.”
